Werneth Park, OldhamWerneth Park is the second biggest park in Oldham and the flagship scheme of the second round of the two-year programme to improve 22 play sites across the borough funded by a £1.2 million Government grant as part of the Playbuilder scheme. The existing site had old equipment which was unsafe and unsightly. Following extensive public consultation and office led research, proposals were developed which proposed to give the playspace a central feature which was unique to the local area. This formed the tower and slide elements of the design. Other elements encouraged natural play using natural materials which allows for the children to decide how they want to use the space. There were also a number of standard pieces of equipment including swings and a slide. The construction work was carried out in the Spring / Summer of 2011 with the opening ceremony taking place in spring 2011. |
