Founded by David Appleton and Philip Deeley in 1984, The Appleton Group is a well-established firm of landscape architects and environmental consultants with offices in Bolton ( Greater Manchester ), Warrington ( Merseyside ), The Wirral ( Merseyside ), Bristol and Northern Ireland.

The practice offers expertise at all stages of a project from conception through the research, feasibility and planning and masterplanning stages, to design, construction by contract, aftercare and long-term management.

Experience

Our experience ranges from working in both urban and rural areas from small-scale housing developments to major business parks and recreational facilities. The firm undertakes corporate appointments with other professionals and has extensive experience of working for the private, public and voluntary sectors.

The practice has a proven track record in planning and environmental assessment, landscape and countryside management, Eco Schemes (using The Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM assessment methodology), civic design and urban design, historic and urban conservation projects, transportation schemes, the development of tourism and leisure projects, commercial and industrial schemes, landfill restoration, landscape planning and in consultancy as expert witness in Public Inquiries.

Technology

Our full project design and management skills are supported by CAD and graphics technology including image manipulation software for the production of photomontages.

Professional Affiliations

The practice is registered with the Landscape Institute, The Royal Town Planning Institute, Constructionline and is a member of the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Management.

A Director led approach to all projects is adopted to ensure a high standard of service. The Appleton Group operates its own quality management system based upon the provisions of BS EN ISO 9001:2008.

We are also registered planning supervisors and all staff personnel are fully conversant with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007. The practice also holds certification for Secured by Design® from The Greater Manchester Police Authority.

THE APPLETON GROUP 1984 - 2009 Celebrating 25 Years in business

Landscape consultancy is a cyclical business and we find ourselves working increasingly in social housing projects just like back in the 1980’s!

Our current workload is much wider than this and current projects include the redevelopment of the Ellesmere Shopping Centre in Walkden, Medical Centre projects in Caerphilly, Abergele, Fleetwood and Halifax, The new DSA development at Silkwood Park in Wakefield and Hamilton Court in Little Lever - The first social housing to be built in Bolton for over 20 years.

Our involvement in the Playbuilder schemes in Oldham continues, following successful completion of the Whitehall Lane Playspace, we are now working on the year two scheme at Werneth Park.
