Whitehall Lane Playspace, Oldham

Whitehall Lane Playspace in Oldham is part of the two-year programme to improve 22 play sites across the borough funded by a £1.2 million Government grant as part of the Playbuilder programme. The existing site had remains of a former play area which had fallen into disrepair. Following extensive public consultation and office led research, proposals were developed which encouraged natural play using natural materials which allows for the children to decide how they want to use the space. There were also a number of standard pieces of equipment including swings and a climbing frame. The construction work was carried out in the autumn / winter of 2009 with the opening ceremony taking place in spring 2010.
